Breaking the Mold: Interactive
InDesign
The release of InDesign CS5 is nothing short of revolutionary. Now you can apply all the tools that
have made InDesign the industry standard for print, to design for interactive electronic media too. With the
release of Creative Suite 5, InDesign has evolved from print to “printeractive!” Designers expected to meet the demands of a changing media landscape can now design for multiple destinations from one environment,
using the same skills, tools, and even the same assets.

Its lessons will be useful to every web site owner, every marketeer, every web developer, and every designer. You need no particular creative or technical skills to apply the lessons in these chapters.

So there’s nothing really new in here. If you’ve done any web or UI design, or even thought much about it, you should say, “Oh, right, I know what that is” to most of these patterns. But a few of them might be new to you, and some of the familiar ones may not be part of your usual design repertoire. These patterns work for both desktop and web-based applications. Many patterns also apply to such digital devices as palmtops, cell phones, and TV-based devices like digital recorders. Ordinary web sites might also benefit, but I’ll talk more about that topic in the next section.

As everyone knows, the iPhone is far more than a phone. It’s an e-book reader, a gaming device, a music player, and even a tool for banking and blogging. And it’s a camera, too—a rather extraordinary one. Millions now use the iPhone camera as their camera of choice, snapping images of their buddies’ hijinks, their kids’
birthdays, and just about anything else crossing their line of vision. But it’s one thing to use the iPhone for occasional snapshots and another to explore the wondrous possibilities of iPhone photography. @ebook.laku-abis.com

The Cloud Concept
In the modern world of the Internet and the Worl d Wide Web, there are thousands upon thousands of computers sitting in data centers, scattered around the world. We use those computers constantly—for chatting with other people, sending email, playing games, and reading and writing blogs. When we’re doing one of these everyday activities, we’re accessing a program running on a server, using our browser as a client. Continue Reading »

The BlackBerry family of devices has long been the undisputed king of e-mail for business professionals. In recent years, the company that makes BlackBerry handhelds, Research In Motion (RIM), has been making devices targeted more towards consumers with devices such as the Storm and Pearl. Because of this shift the demand for quality applications has exploded in recent years. The creation of the BlackBerry App World has only fueled this growth and the size of the opportunity. According to recent statistics, the BlackBerry App World has the fewest number of titles and the highest average cost, all of which means there is a big opportunity here! Carrying a BlackBerry used to speak volumes about a person. When you saw someone tapping at that wide keyboard with both thumbs, you could safely assume that the owner was a businessperson, and that the person’s time was so valuable that he or she couldn’t afford to be out of touch from the office for even a moment. Today, you can no longer make that assumption. BlackBerry 6 and other recent releases have played up the devices’ power, connectivity, and media capabilities. Now these devices are carried by teenagers, surfers, knitters—seemingly everyone. Anyone who has experienced that large screen, that expansive keyboard, and that powerful processor will not contentedly return to a crammed phone with a multi-tap dial pad.
