While we specifically targeted Android SDK Version 2.1 in this book, many of the examples were tested on handsets running a variety of Android SDK versions. The Android SDK is updated very frequently (every few months). We kept this in mind when choosing which features of the SDK to highlight to ensure maximum forward and backward compatibility. Attack vectors that seemed fantastical in the past are now a reality. The reasons for this are twofold. First, the need for mobility and agility in technology has made the traditional perimeter-based defense model invalid and ineffective. The consumption of services in the cloud, the use of wireless access points and mobile devices, and the access granted to contingent workers have made the concept of the perimeter irrelevant and meaningless. This issue is further amplified by the increased complexity of and trust placed on web browsers, which when successfully exploited can turn the perimeter inside out. Second, the emergence of Generation Y culture in the workforce is facilitating the use of social media and communication platforms to the point where citizens are sharing critical data about themselves that has been nearly impossible to capture
remotely in the past. Continue Reading »
Hacking -The Next Generation
Technically speaking, ASP.NET MVC is far superior to Web Forms. This is because it’s newer and was designed around an alternate and more modern set of principles and patterns. Is this sufficient reason for you to switch to it? In my opinion, it isn’t. ASP.NET MVC is an excellent choice from the perspective of developers, but that fact alone doesn’t automatically translate into a tangible benefit for the customer and the project. Moreover, ASP.NET MVC is much less forgiving than Web Forms and requires training, or at least self-training. Continue Reading »

Why does the world need yet another web framework?
This is the question that is most likely on your mind-or perhaps it’s what you were thinking when you
saw this book sitting on the shelf. We each asked ourselves this many times over the last few years.
Indeed there are many frameworks out there today flavored with every buzzword the industry can think
of. In short: it’s easy to be skeptical. Yet as we, the authors, delve deeper into the latest and greatest web
framework, we’re each starting to realize just how far the industry has come in the last 10 years.
Rob began programming for the web with Classic ASP in 1997 and was giddy with excitement.
When .NET came out he remembers running around his office, stopping everyone from working
and explaining that the world just tilted on its axis. Continue Reading »
Professional ASP.NET MVC 2
When .NET first appeared, it introduced a small avalanche of new technologies. There was a whole new
way to write web applications (ASP.NET), a whole new way to connect to databases (ADO.NET), new
typesafe languages (C# and VB .NET), and a managed runtime (the CLR). Not least among these new
technologies was Windows Forms, a library of classes for building Windows applications. Continue Reading »

To build effective and attractive database-driven web sites, you need two things: a solid and fast framework to run your web pages on and a rich and extensive environment to create and program these web pages. With ASP.NET 4 and Visual Web Developer 2010 you get both. Together they form the platform to create dynamic and interactive web sites. ASP.NET 4 builds on top of its popular predecessors ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET 3.5. While maintaining backward compatibility with sites built using these older versions, ASP.NET 4 and Visual
Web Developer 2010 introduce new, exciting features and bring many smaller, but much needed changes to the framework and development tools. Continue Reading »

SharePoint 2010 is the next stage in the evolution of the SharePoint technology platform. SharePoint 2010 expands on the previously provided SharePoint platform by extending existing capabilities and
introducing new capabilities to make it easier and more cost effective to create business collaboration

We have seen many situations where SharePoint is introduced and individuals struggle to leverage these resources because they are not aware of all the capabilities available or how to leverage them to gain the most value possible. This book was an outcome of this need and can serve as a reference for people working within a SharePoint environment. Continue Reading »
